“You can go with THIS, or you can go with THAT.” ☺️😆These little artists’ abilities to freely create, test, add, let go, pivot, and listen to the heart when it says “I’m done,” had our studio in such a mindful, imaginative and blessed space. For “Waterworks” week, all of our creators passing through channeled Bruce Lee’s lesson, “Be like water.” Excited to revisit this reminder again and again as we continue to create with beautifully unique prints.

When our minds say “Why?”, our hearts say “Why not?!”🩷 Curiosity, choice, initiative, and ownership were in action, creating a beautiful, colorful sight! Who knew hedgehog hair salons was a thing?! 😆 PSA: Save all your gift cards, swipe cards, old bank cards, etc. and use them for smoothing out dots of paint to create unexpected and colorful tie-dye effects. Fun for All ages. COLOR ME AMAZED! 😍🎨

Ahh yes. Ocean week. 🌊🐚 Our Chrysalis creators had so much fun embellishing sea shells following this simple process:

✏️Trace the shell on a napkin of your choice. (Soo many great patterns out there in budget-friendly home decor stores.)
✂️Cut out the shape to fit on the underside of the shell and use only the very top thinnest layer of the napkin.
🖌️Paint a layer of a glue-based seal on the underside of the shell, stick the napkin shape down, and smooth out any wrinkles. Top with another painted layer of the seal again.
⏰Let it dry.

Artists can also tear and quilt together pieces of different napkins, draw on the napkins before sticking, paint the other side of the shell, etc. The world is their oyster!! 🦪

Getting our hands in the sand, exploring sea animals and real ocean artifacts, freely mixing colors to paint shells, and drawing on sea glass with acrylic paint markers left us in awe of their splendor! 🐚 🐙🐳🐠

Watermelon week 🍉🍉🍉 at Chrysalis was the perfect w

Watermelon week 🍉🍉🍉 at Chrysalis was the perfect way to officially kick off summer and use our five senses! Our artists combined shaving cream, red tempera paint, and black beans to create faux watermelon mixtures. We stamped paper in them to dry and create beautiful prints for our watermelon pop-up/peek-a-boo surprises. There was even a watermelon zombie and some little ponies that joined the party. A quick and fun project was using watermelon ice cube trays, green sticky sand and black beans to make watermelon slices to explore. Rocks | Part 2: Mindfully made mandalas and the absolute sweetest inspired artisans graced our studio, and even included me, so thoughtfully. I was honored to join in the exercise of drawing concentric circles with paint markers and then gradually layering shapes and patterns with dark and light colors to compliment one another. I’m excited to keep adding more details and outlines to my rock in a pot entitled, “Lady with a beret.” ☺️ Note the imperative message on the back by one of my wise artists. Enjoy your week and remember that you matter, too. 💜🎨🌈

Creativity “ROCKS”! A truly natural art form inspired this week’s Chrysalis creations. We learned beautiful lessons about sharing your gifts to spread joy with the story, Scribble Stones, by Diane Alber, formed our own silly scribbles with paint and oil pastels, created caring rock creatures and creepy cactus rocks, and used paintbrushes to move rocks and tempera paint around a canvas. We also had some “inspired artisans” visit the studio to mindfully move paint pens in repetitive shapes with bold colors to create rock mandalas! (Check these out in a reel coming soon.) With artists spanning from age 21 months to 11 years, this week really brought the joy. Rock on! 🤘🏼

Gettin’ buggy wit it. 🐛 🐞 🦋 🐜 🐝 Chrysalis embraced

Gettin’ buggy wit it. 🐛 🐞 🦋 🐜 🐝 Chrysalis embraced its inner insect while artists created oil pastel transfer and watercolor prints, impromptu mini Mason jar terrariums (thank you to a talented 4-year-old creator who inspired the idea, along with her addition of paint and oil pastels popping on black scratch art paper!), and sensory bins with some cherished characters, including a very hungry caterpillar, a lonely firefly and a grouchy ladybug. We love you @officialericcarle! Freedom was celebrated with watercolors, dot dabbers, and golf balls to form textured caterpillars living on vine covered paper towel trees. Buggy fun was had by all. 🌳☮️

Hello Creative People, Families, Caregivers, and friends! ☀️ Summer is near! If you are still looking to create some experiences that build confidence, outlet energy, build-in social time, maintain learning skills, or to just get a breather, register and see the sweetest things unfold. Some Chrysalis community-building events are also in the works! Thank you for following along. With ❤️, Kristin (founder/owner)

Now onto the fun, for-reels! We had a blast stamping bright, beautiful flower arrangements with paint and gallon bags filled with water. Our bags had a purple hue because we used from a previous project with a little leftover pink and blue paint. Gotta love teachable moments.

After testing on paper, our artists stamped on canvas and cut loose with some rapid spreading and “smushing”! (That’s a technical term.) They designed cardboard vases with markers and oil pastels and an impromptu move to add artificial flowers and leaves from one of our sensory bins. There was also some mindfulness and fine motor work happening, and the possibilities were endless!
